Location: Remote, with approximately ~25% travel for team meetings and clinic visits.
As Vice President of Clinical Operations, you will be responsible for building our world-class obesity medicine and primary care clinical teams across the country. You will work in tandem with our Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer to build the culture, set the goals, and build the team and infrastructure necessary to achieve best-in-class clinical outcomes for our patients. In conjunction with Practice Operations, you will drive clinical performance, including patient outcomes, contribution margin, and access, utilization across markets. You are patient-centered and have experience working across specialties and disciplines in a healthcare provider organization. The team that will report to you includes (but is not limited to) committed physicians, APP’s, registered nurses, dietitians, and behavioral health clinicians across multiple geographies that are providing comprehensive medical care, with a specific focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of obesity-related conditions as appropriate in a primary care setting. This position offers an opportunity to define the future of obesity medicine across the country and to make a significant impact on the lives of patients by helping them improve their overall health.
Responsibilities include the enthusiasm and experience required to:
Design and scale hybrid care delivery models across in-clinic and national virtual care, including interdisciplinary teams and share resource allocation across markets.
- Build a deep understanding and empathy for our adult and adolescent metabolic health patients, and our adult primary care patients
- Embody the knownwell mission and values of compassion, integrity and patient inclusivity in how we deliver care Create the organizational structure, recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management and incentive programs to ensure that we are delivering exceptional patient care
- Quantify, measure and track our clinical team’s impact
Recruit and build a world-class, multi-disciplinary clinical organization.
- Collaborate with our Talent team to implement a rigorous interview and hiring process that identifies and attracts high-performing clinicians across the country
- Inspire and attract great clinicians to join our mission-driven team
- Engage talent across disciplines (physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists and beyond)
Maintain industry-leading retention and satisfaction amongst the clinical team.
- Create an environment where clinicians feel empowered to provide exceptional patient care
- Design and implement a clinical compensation model that drives best in class care as well as clinician satisfaction
- Anticipate future patient growth across multiple geographies and ensure that our existing clinical team and recruiting process will successfully meet this demand
Drive operational efficiency for our clinicians and build all of the supporting functions to maintain a high-performing team.
- Build the Learning & Development, Quality & Training, Clinical Informatics, Licensure & Credentialing teams and infrastructure
- Ensure that our clinicians stay current with licensure and appropriate re-certifications
Contribute to clinic/market P&L performance, including clinician productivity, labor cost management, and contribution margin; oversee key drivers such as visit unit economics (RPV, ADV), utilization, and access.
- Design and evolve productivity-based compensation models (e.g., RVU frameworks), including performance reporting, benchmarking, and alignment to quality and business outcomes
Engage with cross-departmental partners to ensure alignment and drive outcomes.
- Build a trusting and collaborative relationship with other functions at the company, including (but not limited to) Product, Technology, Finance, HR and Recruiting
- Coordinate with the broader care team to ensure that our clinicians and patients have the support that they need
You have:
- Training and experience working as a clinician (preferred but not required in primary care or obesity medicine)
- 10+ years of experience in clinical operations or care delivery
- Experience operating in a startup or early-stage, high-growth healthcare environment, with the ability to build systems, structures, and teams from the ground up in a resource-constrained setting.
- A track record of outstanding leadership and experience managing a care delivery organization of more than 50 clinicians across multiple geographies
- Experience empowering high-performing teams, especially through periods of rapid growth
- Familiarity and experience with fee-for-service in-person and virtual care. Value-based care experience is ideal, but not required
- Enthusiasm to learn from, lead and inspire a diverse team of physicians, APP’s, health coaches, and other staff
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivation and drive, with a demonstrated ability to deliver on projects from concept to implementation with minimal coaching
- Facility measuring outcomes and using data to drive decisions
- Familiarity with athena would be ideal but is not a required qualification
